About TrackSorter

What it is

TrackSorter builds your personal ranking of an artist’s songs by asking you to pick between two at a time. No lists to drag around, no agonising over #37: just a series of quick choices, and a full ranking at the end.

TrackSorter Song Sorter (tssongsorter.com) is for Taylor Swift’s songs. TrackSorter Artists (artists.tssongsorter.com) does the same for more artists: Sabrina Carpenter, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Halsey, Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey and Audrey Hobert.

How the sorting works

The sorter uses merge sort. It ranks small groups of songs from your picks, then merges those groups into longer and longer ranked lists. That takes far fewer choices than comparing every song with every other: a few hundred picks for 100 songs, instead of nearly 5,000.

“I like both” and “No opinion” both count as a draw, and the two songs stay side by side. Use them when you need to, but every draw makes the final order a little less precise.

Made a pick you regret? Undo takes it back.

Choosing what to rank

Rank a whole discography, or open Filters to choose:

  • a starting point, such as album tracks only, everything, or a collection like vault tracks
  • which albums to include, or just one with “only this”
  • which song types to include, such as deluxe and bonus tracks, remixes, singles, features and covers

Every album also has its own page, for ranking just that record.

Saving, sharing and comparing

  • Progress isn’t saved automatically. Export Session copies your sort as a text code; import it later, on any device, to carry on.
  • When you finish, Share My Ranking copies a link to your results.
  • Send that link to a friend and they can rank the same songs with Compare With Them. You both get a taste match: your score, the songs you both love and your biggest disagreements.

Who makes it

TrackSorter is an independent, fan-made project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any artist, label or streaming service. Song titles, album names and artwork belong to their owners, and song previews come from Apple’s iTunes catalogue.
